I’ve been following the development of this film. The relationship Haiti has with Venezuela is probably its most beneficial one to date.

Vanity Fair has put out their 18th annual Hollywood Issue saluting “the fresh young stars of 2012” that are making their mark on Hollywood. The issue comes out in March—right in the middle of awards season—and this year Adepero Oduye, the face of acclaimed indie film Pariah is amongst the 11 starlets that were highlighted.
Adepero Oduye, the lead in first-time director Dee Rees’s affecting and deeply personal new indie drama, Pariah. A hit at Sundance earlier this year, Pariah tells the story of Alike (pronounced “a-leek-aye”), a gender-bending seventeen-year-old from Brooklyn who struggles to find her identity while also trying to keep her sexuality a secret from her strict—and sometimes intentionally oblivious—churchgoing parents.
Meryl Streep think’s she’s extraordinary – and the critics have called her debut performance in Pariah ‘incandescent’ and “unforgettable”
We’ll be keeping our eyes on Miss Oduye.
If you haven’t seen it, put it on your list.
And as tends to happen, the Academy snubbed an exceptional film. We can all speculate as to why…
